Music Ministry at Thompson Church

There are many ways for those of all ages to praise God through musical presentations at Thompson Church -- using bells, chimes, and voices! Learn more about our choirs and ensembles below. Our music director, Tricia Murphy, is also happy to answer any questions you may have. Contact Tricia.

CHildren's CHoirs

Cherub Choir

This choir encourages the growth of four-year-olds through first graders, both musically and spiritually.  In addition to presenting during worship services, occasionally the children in this choir also visit shut-ins, nursing homes, and retirement communities. By using their voices and simple musical instruments, our youngest choir members learn the concepts of melody, rhythm, and harmony (and have lots of fun!).

Jesus' Joyful Choir

In this choir, second through fifth graders sing occasionally during our worship services. They also sing on special holidays and have the chance to participate in the annual Christmas musical. Their participation provides them with the opportunity to develop leadership skills as well as a commitment to our church.

Children and youth Chime & Bell Choirs

Chime Choir

First through fourth graders in the Chime Choir get to join the great bell-ringing tradition at Thompson Church. This choir rings at Christmas and Easter services and other chosen times of the year. Members grow in their Christian faith as they learn what it is like to be part of a loving, caring, every-member-needed team. They also learn basic music theory and special handbell terms and techniques.

Credo Bells

The fifth through eighth graders in the Credo Bell Choir form a strong and supportive two- to three-octave choir. They ring in worship often, with visits to retirement centers and nursing homes as a part of their ministry. Participation in this choir helps members to "train" their ear, to refine their coordination, and to learn advanced music theory.

Carillon Bell Ensemble

High school students and adults ring together to form the Carillon Bell Ensemble. The group plays bell trios, quartets, and small-ensemble bell pieces, which employ challenging and fun techniques. The Carillon Bell Ensemble requires sight-reading abilities, and previous bell-ringing experience is helpful.

Adult Ensembles

With One Voice Choir

High school students and adults sing together in this choir at one worship service a week from September through May. Rehearsals are structured to strengthen choir members' voices and to improve their music-reading abilities. This choir provides opportunities for solo, duet, trio, and quartet experiences using a variety of composers and styles of music. This choir develops a strong sense of Christian community, where members treasure the weekly rehearsal time as a welcome respite from their hectic lives.

Adult Bell Choir

The Adult Bell Choir rings in worship monthly, as well as during special holiday services. This choir also occasionally travels to present at local senior living facilities, as well as area bell events. We strive to maintain our ringing at the highest level:  "bronze" ringing.  We have a five-octave set of Malmark handbells and three octaves of chimes.

Each week the music in worship highlights the theme of the Pastor's sermon and helps us to lift our voices in gratitude to God.
