Using the New Thompson Church Website

Welcome to the new Thompson Church website!  We are excited to share our work with you, and hope that you find our new site easy to use, informative, and enjoyable.  The best way to find all that the new site has to offer is to explore on your own, but we wanted to highlight a few of the key features, especially those that a lot of people use often.  If you have any questions that aren't answered on this page you will find a contact form where you can reach out to our support team.  Enjoy!

Navigating the New Site

Finding something on the site can be accomplished in two main ways: via the navigation menu or using the site search bar feature.

Watch this helpful video for a tour of the website.

Using the Navigation Menu

At the top of every page you will see our navigation menu (see the image to the right).  By hovering your mouse over one of the main content areas (like Worship, About, etc) you can see the available pages in that area.  For example, if you wished to view the sermon recording from the other week when you were away, you would hover your mouse over Worship and then click on Sermon Recordings.

You can also find some commonly used items by looking at the bottom of every page in an area called the "footer."  The footer, like the main navigation menu, is the same on every page.  It also contains the church phone number and address.  The footer is also where you will find the second main method of finding content on the site: the search bar.

Using the Site Search Bar

Click on the image to view it larger.

If you have used Google, you already know how to use the site search bar.  At the bottom of every page, in the footer area, is a bar with a search icon and the word "Search" written in it.  Simply click in the box and start typing what you are looking for.  As you type, suggestions will pop up under the box.  For example, if you want information on Vacation Bible School (or VBS), you might type "VBS" into the search box, and then every page on the site that mentions VBS will be listed.  You can see this example to the right.

Social Media Bar

Directly above the footer (shown on the search image above) is a blue bar with a series of icons.  Each of these icons links to one of Thompson Church's social media accounts (such as Twitter, Facebook, and Vimeo).  Clicking on these icons will open that site in a new window, where you can follow our updates on that site.

How-To: Common Tasks

There are some things that lots of people want to do on the site.  Here are the step-by-step instructions for many of the most common.

Get Information About Upcoming Events

On the homepage you will find a list of upcoming featured events.  These are events that the staff has selected to highlight in the coming month(s).  To learn more about those events, simply click the event title or image, or alternately you can navigate to the list at Life Together > Events.

Additionally, you can view the full, public church calendar by clicking on the Full Calendar link from the homepage.  The link is also located in the footer of every page under the Member Tools heading.  Please note, the full calendar only includes events published on the public calendar.  Some church groups may choose to only publish events privately; to view these events members will need to login to our private online community, Thompson Church Online (more information below).

Find Church or leadership Contact Information

The footer (located on every page) contains both the mailing address and phone number for the church office.  Here you can also find a link to our general contact form.  Additionally, if you wish to contact a specific member of the staff, you can do so from About > Leadership.  You will notice that we do not publish the email addresses of our staff publicly; this is an attempt to protect our staff from automated, unwanted email.

Find Worship Gathering Information

Information about our worship gatherings are located in two locations.  The first is on the homepage, under the heading Join Us For Worship.  You can find more detailed information by navigating to Worship > Worship Gatherings.

If it becomes necessary to cancel or adjust our worship schedule due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, we will post a notice on the website.  This notice will appear in a notification bar at the top of every page.  Please note: this notification will contain a "dismiss" feature (an "X" on the right or left of the bar); once you dismiss the notification it will not display again for that event.  Those who are signed up to receive notification through our private online community, Thompson Church Online, will also receive a text alert (more information below).

Find Contact Information for a Thompson Church Member

Finding contact information for church members is done through our private online community, Thompson Church Online.  Read more about our private online community below.

Find information about small group and service opportunities

Looking for a group to take part in?  The easiest way is through our group finder!  You can access this feature by navigating to Life Together > Find Your Group.  You can also find a wealth of information by logging in to Thompson Church Online (more information below).

Introducing: Thompson Church Online

One of the most exciting features of our new site is Thompson Church Online, our private online community.  This password protected area is just for the Thompson Church community.  It allows church members to quickly and securely access information about fellow community members, share and collaborate with those in common groups (like music ensembles, bible studies, small groups, etc), keep up to date with church events, and set up text alerts from church leadership in the event of weather cancelations or other urgent information.

Only members of our community have access to the site, and everyone has a unique login (just like most other major sites you may use), which helps make sure your private information is kept just that way: private.  Additionally, you have the option to set your privacy controls however you are most comfortable.

Accessing Thompson Church Online

Watch this helpful video tutorial.

From any page on our public site, simply click the Member Login link in the top right corner of the page.  You will be directed to the secure login page for Thompson Church Online.

  • If you have never logged in before, click the Sign Up link (below the login button).  This form will walk you through the steps necessary to verify that you are a member of the Thompson Church community.  If Thompson Church has an email address on file for you, please use that email address to sign up, as it will eliminate the need for a manual verification of your identity.  Once you have created your account, you will return to this login screen to access the online community.  Your username will be the same as your email address.  Your password will be set by you.

  • If you have already set up your account, login using the email address you provided during the sign up process and the password you selected.

  • If you cannot remember your login details, select the "forgot username or password" link just under the login button.  This will allow you to recover and reset your login details.  Please note: the church office does not have access to your password.  This is for your privacy.  The only way to reset your password is by using the online reset form.

Using Thompson Church Online

Our online community is managed by a system called Church Community Builder.  They have provided a very helpful guide to using the main features of the community.  We encourage you to download this brief guide and look over the instructions.  You can even print out the guide and keep it by your computer while you use Thompson Church Online.

Finding a Friend's Contact Information

We know that for many people, the first thing you will want to try is finding a friend's contact information.  This is very easy with Thompson Church Online's Directory.  Follow the steps below:

  • Login to Thompson Church Online (instructions above)
  • Select People from the left-hand menu
  • Enter the name of the community member you wish to find
    • As you type, TCO will suggest community members; if you see the person you are searching for, click their name
    • You can also type just a portion of a name, and press Enter to see all names that match that partial name
  • When you find the person, click on their name to see their profile, along with the information they have chosen to share
    • NOTE: You will notice that for many people the system will not directly list an email address, but rather provide a link to securely send them an email through TCO.  This is to protect privacy.  If the individual chooses to respond, then you will see their email address.
